One of the pivotal moments in the new Star Wars movie was the iconic light saber duel between Kylo Ren and Finn on the Starkiller planet. It was a real pleasure to take the drama, the cinematic spirit of the original and lampoon it for kids.
I came up with the idea of having Kylo “force dribble” and throw Finn through a hoop of branches and really liked the result of the animation by one of our talented crew. I believe good previs sets up a strong base for a scene and inspires quality animation as the animator only has to concentrate on delivering a nuanced performance rather than dealing with broad timing strokes.
The initial previs took me 2 days.
