This opening sequence for the 2022 Brad Pitt actioner - Bullet Train was a challenge to create. Two completely disparate footage elements - a shaky drone shot over downtown Tokyo and an alley way had to be grafted together to create a continuous shot flying over the city down to street level. The two cameras had completely different framings and lens profiles.
The shot was joined with a middle ground layout of digital building assets and the two camera tracked sequences were stitched using this as a visual patch.
Although obviously faked, the result is surprisingly effective in the movie's stylized visual language.
