As is customary for all Lego console titles, TT Games creates a logo sting that opens the game in a style sympathetic to the production.
For The Force Awakens we were not able to use any of the Star Wars characters due to licensing issues and yet we still needed to retain a feel for the pace and style of the film.
Creating the TT logo via parallax inspired by the iconic Lambie Nairn Channel 4 logo sting from 1982 was the initial design brief to me. It was suggested it might be set in the Niima Outpost ship graveyard which had already been constructed as a game level.
Using elements from this art, I laid out a new environment playing with dynamic frame compositions composed of derelict ship parts. The speeders led the viewer's eye from simple, barren desert into a chaotic landscape of battle debris to reveal the logo.
The initial previs took 3 days.
